Cookie policy

1. What’s the purpose of this cookie policy?

1.1.    Our website https://www.johnandjane.be uses cookies. We, the private limited liability company BV John & Jane, with company number 0698.967.548 and registered office at Industriestraat 16, 8755 Ruiselede (hereinafter “John & Jane”, “we” or “us”) are responsible for the use of these cookies and how your data is processed using cookies or in relation to cookies.

You can contact us by email on hello@johnandjane.be or by telephone at +32 51 43 29 29.

1.2 This cookie policy explains how we use cookies on our website, and what we use them for. This policy is made available to you electronically and can be accessed at any time by going to “Cookie Policy” on our website. We reserve the right to update the cookie policy at any time. You will be informed of any changes via the website.

2. What are cookies, and what are they used for?

2.1.    Cookies are small packets of data that a web browser stores on the hard drive of your computer or device when you visit or access a website, or when you use an application such as a smartphone app that stores certain user information. Cookies contain unique codes that are used for purposes such as recognising you when you return to our website, so that we can optimise your user experience. Cookies help to smooth the interaction between a user and a website and are used to optimise user experience and to collect statistics about the users of the website. They are also used to save personal settings and preferences, and for delivering visual and audio content. Some cookies may be set by a third party, such as Google Analytics, for the purpose of analysing website usage.

2.2 One way we use cookies is to help us optimise your experience with our website and ensure that the site behaves as you expect. For example, by recording how you use our website, we can improve it to meet your needs. We can also use cookies to target the ads that you see online so that they are more relevant to you and your interests.

3. Enable/disable/manage cookies

3.1.    You can change your browser’s cookie preferences at any time by clicking the link for your browser and following the instructions: Internet ExplorerFirefoxChromeSafariiOS.

3.2.    It is possible to disable cookies. You can reject cookies in your browser either automatically or on a manual basis, and you can also specify whether or not to allow particular types of cookies. You can also configure your browser to notify you whenever a cookie is saved.

However, if you block all cookies, it is possible that the website will no longer behave correctly or that certain elements (e.g. visual elements) or functions on the website will break or have limited functionality.

4. Consent

4.1. Your consent is required for a website to set or access cookies on your end device. This consent is not necessary for technical storage of information or the provision of a service that you have explicitly requested and for which a cookie is strictly necessary.

In other words, your consent is not required for functional or necessary cookies.

It is required for all other types of cookies. Your consent must:

  • be obtained before the cookies are set. If you have not given your consent, cookies may not be stored on your device;
  • be informed. The purpose of this cookie policy is to provide you with the relevant information about the various cookies;
  • be explicit and active. You provide your consent by enabling the options from the cookie banner on our website;
  • be specific and therefore given separately for each cookie or category of cookie.

4.2. Functional or necessary cookies are required for our website to work properly, e.g. to display certain graphical elements. These cookies are needed for technical reasons for our website to work properly and for security. They are therefore set without your consent, since they fall under the legitimate interests of John & Jane, providing these override your rights and interests that require data protection.

Cookies that are not functional or necessary, on the other hand, are stored for analytic, social and/or commercial purposes and are separate from the technical functionality or support of our website. For example, these may include:

  • Analytics cookies: these are used to record statistics about the number of visitors to the website, the most popular pages, etc. (e.g. Google Analytics – see later). These cookies tell us about how the website is used. For example, John & Jane can use these cookies to see data such as how many times a particular page has been read, how much time a person spends on our website, etc. The information that we collect in this way is compiled into analytics reports. We can use these reports to improve the structure, navigation and content of our website and associated services. We also use this data for generalised reports about our services or when we respond to surveys. No personal data is disclosed in these cases. Each of our visitors is asked to give their consent before these cookies can be set.
  • Marketing cookies: these cookies are used to personalise ads that are shown to you online.
  • Social media cookies: these cookies facilitate the inclusion of buttons for social media sites. The buttons use codes issued by the various sites. They are useful for promoting websites, as well as offering functionality such as “like” and “pin”.

4.3. If you have given your consent on our website to the use of non-functional cookies, you can at any time change your preference and withdraw your consent. If you do so, any cookies that have already been set will be deleted. You can do this by [provide link with instructions].

You can withdraw your consent to our cookies at any time, even if you have previously accepted cookies. However, please remember that if you do not consent to certain cookies, your user experience may be suboptimal.

5. Third-party cookies

5.1.    Our website uses its own cookies (first-party cookies), which are set directly by our website. However, it also uses cookies provided by third parties whose services are or could be used on the website (third-party cookies), which are set from a domain other than our own website domain. This is reflected in the two columns in the table in Section 6.2 below.

5.2.    First-party cookies do not require any disclosure of personal data to third parties, but they may be transmitted to a third-party processor, for example for compiling analytics reports. Your consent is also required for e.g. first-party analytics cookies.

5.3.    Third-party cookies make it possible for personal data to be transmitted to third parties, either directly (e.g. through an active component linked to a banner, or a tracking pixel) or indirectly – by setting cookies that can be accessed by websites other than the provider’s own website.

For example, we use Google Analytics to collect information about how you use our website. We use the information to compile reports and to help us optimise our website.

Google Analytics stores information including:

  • the pages that you visit;
  • the time that you spend on each page;
  • how you accessed the website;
  • what you click on while you’re browsing the website.

These securely stored cookies do not collect any information that identifies the website user. All the information collected by these cookies is completely anonymous. We use information of this kind solely to optimise our website.

If you do not want Google Analytics to record all the websites you visit, go to tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

6. The cookies on our website

6.1.    The table below shows which cookies we use on the website, why we use them, and where they come from. It also lists whether each cookie is a “permanent cookie” or a “session cookie”. These cookies differ in how long they are stored:

  • Permanent cookies remain on your device between browsing sessions. Whenever you visit a website that has set a permanent cookie, it will access its cookie. A typical use of permanent cookies is to store language preferences for a website, so that you do not have to change the language each time you visit the website.
  • Session cookies enable us to follow a specific user for the duration of a browsing session, so that we can keep track of their activity during that session. A browsing session is launched when you open the website in your browser and ends when you close the browser window. Session cookies are temporary and when you close your web browser, all session cookies are deleted.

6.2.    The following cookies may be used on our website:

  • Functional cookies
  • Analytics cookies
